The Canadian Carbonization Research Association (CCRA) was formed in 1965 to conduct research on behalf of Canada’s steel and metallurgical coal producers for the competitive advantage of the industry.
CCRA has 7 corporate members. These include Canada’s major steel companies and coal mining companies, pyrometallurgical companies and government members. Since 2011-12 one corporate member is from the USA.
The Association has a Technical Committee of industrial/ government experts that meets quarterly to review and plan research.
Most of the research sponsored by CCRA is performed at the Metallurgical Fuels Laboratory (MFL) of CanmetENERGY-Ottawa, a national research laboratory within the Department of Natural Resources Canada. MFL has complete facilities for modeling, laboratory, and pilot scale research into energy applications for metallurgical processes
